Dance Teaching Workshop

DANC 341
Fall 2025
Section: 01
Course Cluster and Certificates: Community-Engaged Learning, Service Learning

Whether you are interested in teaching a traditional dance class (like jazz, salsa, choreography), OR integrating movement into other classes (like `science choreography¿ or `poetry through movement¿) this class is for you! Leap, spin, fall, and reach! Dance Teaching Workshop familiarizes students with methods and practices for teaching dance and movement to children and adults. Combining theoretical perspectives on education, dance, embodiment, and creativity together with hands-on practice teaching dance, students will gain practical skill in syllabus design and methods of teaching while developing a "teaching statement" reflecting on the role of dance/movement in education. Prior dance training is not required; however, students should have an interest and some experience in either dance, arts, or education. It is highly encouraged that you take any dance or movement class concurrently with Dance Teaching Workshop. This can be a Wesleyan course, or an extracurricular club or movement practice. It is important to be engaged in a regular physical practice when teaching movement. Please email Katja at kkolcio@wesleyan.edu with a paragraph describing your interest and your experience in either dance or education (or both).
