This course is designed to build and strengthen skills in oral and written German. The course emphasizes attaining ease and fluency in oral expression through group discussion and achieving accuracy and stylistic felicity in writing. The thematic focus will be young people's literature in the last four decades dealing with current social, political and cultural issues. |

Children's and young adults' books, magazine and newspaper articles, films and audio recordings. A grammar review text.

Examinations and Assignments: Numerous short papers; vocabulary exercises; oral reports. Individualized work on grammar as needed. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments: Regular attendance in class, at German films, and at events sponsored by the German Studies Department or the German Haus is expected. |
