| This course may be repeated for credit. |
This course is an exploration of contemporary and modern dance techniques. Classical modern dance, contemporary release, somatics, improvisation, country line dance, Cunningham, and yoga will all inform our time together. Over the course of the semester, we will develop several set warm up sequences and utilize repetition as a way of getting deeper inside of our physical and intellectual work. We will spend each day warming the body from the inside; moving collectively and specifically; developing a sense of weighted momentum; and practicing technical skills and alignment. We will spend time on rigorous phrase material and improvisational methods together, with additional practice viewing dance, reading about dance, and writing our own scores. |
