This Community-Engaged Learning course will explore social issues, classroom management, and current debates related to Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), as well as learning languages in general. The course introduces the ¿best practices¿ of TESOL through current research, practical assignments, and students¿ reflection on their experience teaching English over the course of the semester. Students will critique existing materials, create their own lesson plans and activities, and conduct teaching demonstrations for our class. Working with community partners, students will also complete 20 hours of teaching/tutoring English Language Learners. This course fulfills both the pedagogy and practicum requirements for the Education Studies major and minor. |
