The Idea of Palestine ANTH 320 Spring 2026 Section: 01   This course traces contestations over the idea of Palestine, beginning in the late 19th century. In its approach to an archaeology of the idea of Palestine and its discursive circulation, it draws from the disciplines of History and Anthropology while also incorporating primary texts. Its goal is to provide a rigorous foundation in the origins of the debates that shape discussions of Palestine today while also outlining the history of the land and its peoples, from prior to the imposition of the Sykes-Picot partition plan and the violence that followed it and onto today.
