RNA Biology
MB&B 361
Spring 2026
Section: 01

RNA is often sidelined as simply the intermediary between genomic information in DNA and the cell¿s crucial effectors in proteins. Yet the presence of RNA at the center of the central dogma not only hints at a key role in life origins, but also indicates the enormous power of RNA in controlling gene expression. This course will first cover RNA structural & catalytic capabilities, their possible role in life's origins, and their use in cells today. Second, we will detail how RNA participates in gene regulation via translation, splicing, modification, localization, quality control, decay, and more. Third, we will investigate emerging RNA technologies in both research and medicine that exploit RNA¿s centrality to macromolecular processes in the cell.
