Voice & Movement II: Character-Driven Transformation
THEA 395
Spring 2026
Section: 01

Furthering the integrated continuum of Voice & Movement I, this advanced acting course will emphasize character building to expand into complex characterization through sounding, moving, and speaking. There will be experimentation with diverse sources to stretch the actor's organism, such as vocal and body energies, universal archetypes, rhythm work, and group composition, in tandem with acting texts to approach character-driven physical/vocal transformations. How do you maintain the actor values you have developed while stretching your own voice and movement patterns to the extent of being "unrecognizable"? How do you interpret complex text challenges presented by a playwright with physical/vocal choices? How can these choices honor what the playwright has created while at the same time "make it yours"? This course aims to expand your expressive potential to create dimensional characters in plays.
